Schulte honored in Veiled Profit Project

Ksdk-After a rain delay, the Veiled Prophet parade successfully continued its 132nd year. One float in particular was dedicated to a Ladue Airman who was killed in May while serving in Afghanistan. The new float called, "The Gift of Gardens" was dedicated to First Lt. Rosalyn Schulte of Ladue.

Schulte was killed on May 20th by a roadside bomb near Kabul. The 25 year old was an intelligence and reconnaissance operations officer. She was involved in building the human intelligence part of the Afghan transition force in military intelligence. She was working at the Afghan military bases," says Bob Schulte, Rosalyn's father. Schulte was the Veiled Prophet Maid of Honor in 2003. That year, she took part in the organization's first community service initiative.

"When she was in Kabul, she was also involved in doing community service with the local orphanages and refugees," her father says. The 25 year old was first inspired to join the Air Force while in high school at John Burroughs. "She would take off from school legally and go over to the airport in the afternoon and watch the Air National Guard do their 2 o'clock flyovers and decided she wanted to be a fighter pilot," says Susie Schulte, Rosalyn's mother. While Bob and Susie Schulte are grateful for the support from around the world and are honored by the dedication at the parade, they say their daughter would have shunned the spotlight.

"I always embarassed her by bragging about her. She probably would not have want this notoriety," Bob Schulte says. Schulte was the first female Air Force Academy graduate to be killed supporting Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
